Jobless once again

Well, today was the first day at the new job and it also ended up being the last day. I got there this morning and the director of operations spent about half an hour telling me how bad it is to work for the owner/boss (who would be my direct boss). She told me how he was gay (which really doesn't matter to me) and that he doesn't tell anybody because if his parents found out they would cut him off and he'd lose his business (so one slip up could have cost everyone their job anyway).

During lunch (they were all forced to have lunch with me because it was my first day) they were telling stories of strip clubs and tattoos and drinking binges and the like. I completely felt like I shouldn't be there.

So, in the afternoon, I wrote out a letter of resignation. I wasn't sure if I was going to turn it in or not, so I went to the post office to mail a package after work and then returned to the office and slipped the notice under the door. They never even got my social security number, direct deposit information, W4, etc., so I felt it best to just cut bait now and not waste any more of their or my time.

So, now it is back to the drawing board!

The last week of joblessness

Well, I finished out my nearly a year spent unemployed on a high note. My former roommate from Texas, Jeff, came up to visit last Sunday and just left to return home this morning. It was a nice way to end my time off. We did many, many wonderful things while he was here.

On Memorial Day, we visited a place called The Wilds. It is a safari-type experience located about an hour and a half from my house. We got to ride around for a couple of hours in an open-air safari bus and get up close and personal with some bison, zebras, giraffes, rhinos, camels, various exotic deer, elk and horses and several other species. It was a really cool experience, and one you wouldn't expect to have in the middle of Ohio.

On Tuesday, we went to see Spider-Man 3. I had seen it once already, but once is generally not enough for me when it comes to the good old comic book movies. Besides that, we went to the Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame (lame, lame, lame).

Wednesday was spent mostly around the house, playing some video games, riding four-wheelers, etc.

On Thursday, we drove about 1 1/2 hours southeast to visit with my grandparents and aunt. We went to an auction later that evening. It was pretty fun - the auctioneer sounded like Kermit the Frog, so that was entertaining.

On Friday, we drove to Indiana to do a little gambling on their riverboat casinos. It took about two hours each way, but I managed to pull $10 out of there, so that was cool.

Yesterday we basically just did a little shopping around Lancaster and relaxed a little on Jeff's last full day in town.

All in all, it was a lot of fun and it was nice having a friend around for a while. It was a nice way to end my temporary retirement, that's for sure.

Next up: The beginning of a new job - stay tuned!
